The regular occurring headache is really killing me. Every morning the power cut forces me to get up before the completion of my sleep and this always causes me to have a headache which keeps throbbing through out the day. As the day turns to evening, the ache lessens but the routine repeats again next day. I almost fell like i need a break from my routine and need a rest for few days to recharge myself.
The title is somewhat misleading and its totally my perception and which is
“Good Night” = “Good Sleep”;
more specifically I mean if we have a good sound sleep of 6 to 8 hours then we have a good night.
Lets face it, in this world of rat race and fierce competition, we find that 24 hours per day are insufficient to achieve our goals. We want to achieve many things and in all the things we want to excel and be better than our friends, colleague, neighbour or the stranger sitting on next table in coffee shop. And this is according to me the prime reason which makes our sleep disturbed and which transcends into poor health. There are various other reasons like unusual working hours, illness like insomnia, too much tension, etc. but we need to develop our own mantra to achieve a real good night sleep.
If you remember an age old quote by Benjamin Franklin :
Early to Bed and Early to Rise
Makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise
was true in past, will be true in future and even more true present. So I think everyone agrees that it is best to get up early and start fresh. Well here are few tips which I have learnt either from personal experience or read elsewhere which I find quite effective in getting good night sleep:
- Follow a routine: It is quite difficult in our day to day life but it is best advise and practice to be done. Make a broad routine for the day and try to follow it sincerely, provide sufficient time for sleep, target at least 7 hours of sleep. Try to sleep early and get up before sunrise. The morning cool and fresh air is perhaps the best simulant for the rest of the day. The routine should not only be followed on weekdays but weekends as well.
- Sleep in night: Human’s body and mind has been biologically programmed over thousands of years and generations to sleep, rest and rejuvenate in night, trying to follow a different pattern has adverse effect on the biological system which results in multitude of health problems.
- Exercise and Meditate: Perhaps this is the key to achieve balance in our night sleep and in our life in total. Set aside at least half an hour to one hour every day for exercise and play and meditation, exercise helps strain the muscle and brain then directs body to sleep during night to relax and recharge the muscles. Meditation helps in bringing harmony to body, mind and soul.
- Shower and hot milk: This is a trick which works for me, a shower in the night and a glass of hot milk surely kicks in my sleeping nerve and i get a good night sleep. This mileage may vary from person to person but there will be something which will work for most of the people. Some people get good sleep while reading a story book, while other may like some light music in the evening to sleep, so this has to be tried and tested for each individual
- Get Cosy: This tip is often ignored and never taken seriously. To achieve a good night sleep, it is essential that the bed is comfortable and temperature of the room is suiting well to the body. When the body feels cosy and comfortable, it sleeps well.
- Avoid Tea and Coffee : Tea and Coffee gives body artificial simulant which makes the person awake and yet lazy so in effect, the person remains drowsy and inactive.
- Get Rid of Idiot Box: This sounds awkward but the television is one of the key culprit in recent times for the unhealthy sleeping habits, with so many options on television, we tend to play less, socialize less (except on Facebook) and sleep less. The countless variety of junk yet addictive programmes, soaps, reality shows, unhourly telecast of live sport events, etc. just disturbs the routine too much to be simply ignored.
By following these tips, it is possible to get a “Good Night” sleep or at least improve the sleeping habits. If these tips don’t help then it is better to get professional help and consult a doctor. Till that time adopt some of the tips and see the improvement in your sleeping habit and overall life.
We are all very aware of the type of revolution Facebook has brought in the domain of social networking. The types of innovations, the integration of various apps, unique customization of the update feed, etc. are all hallmark of Facebook holding the nerve of common man. Google’s Orkut even though had similar features but had limited success due to non-intuitive interface and simply because people were addicted to Facebook. Orkut was followed by Google’s Wave which turned to be a big disaster and now Google’s latest offering in social networking domain is “Google+”.
So lets try to see why so much hype on the Google+:
Photo Tagging: Photo sharing is one of the key of any social networking and its made still better by tagging. By default FB doesn’t intimate the person being tagged in anyone else’s album while it is enabled in G+ which is a good security measure. Heck, I should where all I feature.
Friend Management: Perhaps this is the best feature of G+ in which we can create different ‘circles’ and interact with them in different ways. So next time if you plan to write some naughty (f**k**g) comment in some of your close buddy your boss will not know that. Cool…
Better Integration: With FB’s increased presence in business aspects, need of tools like editors, calendar, etc. to be integrated is paramount. This is another feature which will help G+ excel, with some of the best used features like Google’s Docs, Calendar, & Gmail integrated with G+, I feel that G+ will definitely has something to boast. Also Picasa & YouTube is real killer in friend and family usage.
Privacy: No matter what FB advocates are babbling, FB treats that all the data uploaded or written by you is their property and they have full right to use it the way they want. Also if you have made an account in FB you have to struggle hard to remove your info from their databank and server. G+ is offering a service “Data Liberation” wherein you can simply download all your data, delete everything from server and walk away, nothing will be stored after that. Really good on Google’s part. Google for change.
Chatting: G+ “Hangouts” is the group chat application is way better than the basic mono chat offered by FB. I feel this is going to be one of the most used features of G+ in near future both for personal as well as business usage. Chat on …
Well enough of G+ appreciations, lets see how FB fares in comparison
Loyal User: FB is #1 visited site and almost all the users have a pretty active social account, no one wants to switch to a new platform every now and then so this is one of the biggest point which tilts the scale in favour of FB. Plus, I am addicted to Farmville.
Better Search Feature: It sound contradictory that FB search is better than G+ specially when Google is best known for its search engine. But if you try you will find that Search Bar situated at top of FB will almost always give you relevant result while G+ search bar, where it is?
Original Uncluttered Layout: Yes, FB doesn’t offer customization of its wall and that is its core strength, the simplicity of the wall and the way all relevant information is presented in front of eye immediately is the real strength of FB. G+ has currently adopted a similar type of interface but we all don’t like copycats. Right?
Open ID: Yes I have seen many & I mean many sites which use Facebook credential as Open-ID to authenticate you as human. Recently even blogging platform Word press has also added this feature. Google profile also works in the same way but Facebook looks to lead the race.
So after all this comparison, who is the winner?
Well, it is very hard to say. Despite having some great features G+ is going to have a real tough time competing with FB and may be FB may emerge winner but if G+ is able to gain some critical mass then G+ will definitely overtake FB. And my vote goes to “Google +”
Well I finally got a Google+ Invite but I don’t have any of my friend or family as member of Google+ which makes the point of sharing and social networking pointless. As the invite is on trial basis and will slowly and randomly expanded by opening up to more and more people. But once you get an invite and had created an account you can definitely add more people in your circle, but the process is not simple and requires to dig a bit deep and needs more than few clicks. Here is what I have learned, I don’t guarantee that this is the only or correct method but I think this process of adding friend will get you going on the way to connect and form circles and hangouts.
Click on the Circles as highlighted below:
You will reach a page as shown below, since I am using Gmail account all my contact show by default, however you can also add friends from your yahoo or Hotmail account.
Once the contacts have been imported, it will show as stamps as marked by red and green circle. You can now add them into various circles (pre-existing or make new ones). Once you have added them in circle you can double click on the circle and it will expand to show the members. Next double click on the name (highlighted in violet) and now you can send them an invite by clicking on “invite”
BTW, it also possible send invite by simply double clicking on the name on the previous page, but it is suggested that you add the people in circle and then send them invite, this is the only way which has worked for me.
One point which came to my mind while registering for Google+ was that as most of my friends are on FB then why G+, well before FB become popular in India it was Orkut all the way, but FB overtook it in India may be Google want to strike back to FB with G+. But one thing is sure whichever offers better service, uptime and easiness of usage will be winner.
So best of luck on getting Google+ invite and inviting others.
Today 02nd July 2011 is a very important day in my life. Nothing out of ordinary happened and no none of my family or friend have their birthday, anniversary, etc. today, nor do any other special event happened today around me but the day is still special.
Today, my One & half year daughter travelled with me in the car solo. Yes, many kids starts understanding the things by this age and they also travel solo in car with seatbelts on but again its my blog and my expressions.
The drive of 2 kilometres from nearby bus stand to my home was travelled at a blazing fast speed of 15 – 25 km/hr. in 1st and 2nd gear. Being my daughter so naughty, I had no option of putting her on backseat where her last adventure of solo sitting resulted her in falling with face into the seat and she somehow couldn’t roll back to bring her face upside. The previous experience prompted me to put her front seat and put the safety belt on, from where she wrangled out her way in couple of minutes, with on moving traffic and honking horns I didn’t had option to again make her sit so I just somehow make her stand on the seat and drove back.
It was a real experience for my daughter where she travelled without anyone holding her in lap. The experience of initial crying of being stranded soon become laughter of joy when standing on the seat and peeping out by pressing her face against the window glass. Anyway this experience gave me confidence that my daughter slowly but surely getting ready to become more independent on these small but important things and she is learning the important lessons of her life.
This riding solo experience is one which I really feel that I will cherish for a long time.
I transferred the contents of my old blog over here on wordpress.com and then started editing/creating the categories, reorganizing the tags and tweaking the themes/ widgets etc. And while doing so, so random error occurred and, I was unable to make any new post. The state was really frustrating that after all the tweaking and customizing, I am being stopped from posting any new blog entry.
I initiated a support request by filling a support request form and only in few hours, the problem is sorted out. Now, this is really fast and efficient considering the fact that, the wordpress.com service is free and also is the largest used website / platform for blogging by millions of user. Maintaining such high level of support and promptness really made me feel happy that I have come to the right place. All my kudos and respect to the ‘Happiness Engineers’ of wordpress.com
Yes, this article seems little off the regular articles of my blog but I am and always will be disciple of science. A little science is also important in life. And it always good to bring a little variety.
As the title suggests, Artificial Leaf is not exactly an leaf producing glucose from sunlight, carbon dioxide and water but it generates energy is form of hydrogen by decomposing water in presence of sunlight. Now this process is quite old and people have been doing research for long time with different mechanism, different catalyst, different approaches. The major challenges in this domain has been the cost and efficiency of the catalyst, life of catalyst, up-scaling the process and efficient retrieval and storage of hydrogen. Most of the time the catalyst has very low efficiency which makes the process unfeasible for any large scale hydrogen production also the cost of the catalyst is unusually high. Second challenge associated was the deterioration of the catalyst which renders the catalyst unusable. The third major challenge which is still present even now is the up-scaling of the process from bench scale to pilot plant level to prototype and then final commercial product. To my understanding scientists are still struggling to take the process to pilot plant level. The fourth challenge of hydrogen storage and retrieval has been mostly sorted now but it is still a challenge considering the volatile, inflammable and dangerous nature of hydrogen. Other challenges which dependent on the process such as purity of the water being used, flow rate of water, other special requirement also served as hindrance for real progress to be made.
Imagine a house being powered by a bucket of water or a city having its power plant situated in size of a 50 yard swimming pool, such things may look impossible but humanity has moved closer to such reality even more and the work done by scientists of MIT and the news published on their website (Link Here ) is a example that we are not far away for true commercial artificial leaf. The scientists have been able to overcome most of the challenges in successful, continuous and up-scalable process which has to go through the process of testing and evaluation may be 10 years from now we may be driving a car having a a roof filled with water which will be powering the car.
